Huda Beauty Faux Filter Foundation Product Info + Review + Foundation Brush

Huda Beauty have a range of Foundation called the Faux FilterFoundation, and today, i am going to talking about them.

General Product Information/Details

The Huda Beauty Faux Foundation is a Matte Foundation that comes in multiple shades. It contains 35 mL (1.18 fluid ounces), has a shelf life of 18th months and is made in Italy. Each shade costs $65.00 AUD – $32.00 USD and can be purchased from Huda Beauty Online, Sephora and Cult Beauty.

Available Shades/Shade Range

There are 30 shades available in the Faux Filter Foundation range. This is a really good thing, but sometimes it can be difficult to choose, especially when you are buying it online. I have bought 5 different shades and they still don’t match completely. I mix them together to get closer to my shade. I love how Huda is so inclusive though and everyone can find their shade.

Consistency/Coverage/Best Applied With

The Consistency of the Faux Filter Foundation is a creamy liquid. It isn’t really creamy and is fully liquid but a creamy one. I guess what I mean is that it’s not a super liquid that is runny,, it has a thicker finish.

The Coverage is extremely full. A little bit of product goes a long way.

Longevity/Lasting Power/Wear Test

To test the lasting power and wear of the foundation, I checked my face in the mirror 4 times in 2 hour intervals and described what I thought, equaling 8-hours of total wear.

Wear Test with Time Intervals

Time Applied- 9.40 am

Thoughts on Application- The product applies perfect with sponge and huda foundation brush. Blends out with sponges quicker but no big deal because the brush is quick. Too. Have such a flawless, beautiful finish using both brushes. Deffo full coverage and can’t see any flaws, and finish is so even.. love love how this foundation looks!! I defFo don’t need any concealer, it’s so full coverAge. I can’t get over how perfect it looks.

First Check In- 11.40 am

After two hours, the foundation was still fully on and still had high coverage. None has worn off at all and it still looks perfect and smooth. There is no creasing or settling, and no oxidisation.

Second Check In- 1.40 pm

After four hours, the foundation still had full coverage and was fully on. It had oxidized a bit, and I can see tiny cracks. It’s no big deal though because it has worn extremely well a and is barely noticeable.

Third Check In- 3.40 pm

After six hours, the foundation was still on and had not worn off. It still had high coverage and was hiding imperfections. Again, it is oxidising into a darker shade, and had started to settle into fine lines a bit. It wasn’t anything crazy noticeable, but there was deffo some caking. .

Fourth Check In- 5.40 pm

After eight hours, the product was still on for the most part. I say this because it had slightly come off, especially around the jawline. There was more settling and creasing, nothing crazy, but deffo there. The foundation was still comfortable on this skin, which is really good considering there was some caking. Some foundation crack as they oxidase over day but this hasn’t.

Lasting Power/Wear Conclusion

All in all, the foundation had good lasting power and wear. It stayed on for 8 hours perfectly and hardly any coverage was lost. It does oxidise, crease and feel cakey but it’s nothing CRAZY.

The Huda Beauty Faux Filter Foundation Formula has 39ingredients- 5 of these are pigment ingredients and the rest are base ingredients. According to the Ingredient Safety Breakdown (EWG Health Ratings), 72% of the ingredients are ranked as low risk, and 15% of the ingredients are ranked as a moderate risk. The formula does contain a few high risk ingredients (10% of them). I had planned on going in first to talk about the good ingredients until I read the list and decided that I wanna go through the bad first.

The ingredients that have been ranked as high risk in the formula are ALL fragrance ingredients, including Hydroxycitronellal , Coumarin, Benzyl Salicylate & Fragrance.. As I said, all of these ingredients are fragrances/masking agents. It is extremely rare to find a formula packed full to the brim with fragrance chemicals that are extremely irritating to the skin and not tolerated by all. I was pretty shocked, but anyway. I am going to talk about these ingredients more in depth.

Fragrancees are a group of ingredients that give products an artificial smell. There are also some fragrances called Masking Agents, which work too hide smells. If a company wants to alter the chemical smell of the product, they can add in masking ingredients. All fragrances do the same thing…..make products smell.

Fragrance doesn’t have a very good track record when it comes to the skin though, because they are extremely irritating. They can cause a red, itchy rash, dermatitis and even headaches. As I said, in this formula we have 6 fragrances- Hydroxycitromella, Coouarin, Coumarcin, Hexyl Cinnamal , Benzyl Salicylate.

All of these basically work the same and irritate the skin, along with proving scent.. They are not very good ingredients at all. I have never seen so much fragrance in one formula, it’s unnecessary.

Along with the 6 fragrance ingredients, the formula contains other high risk ingredients including Alcohol Denat, Ultramarines and Myristy.

Alchohol Denat serves multi purposes, including acting as a Solvent, Masking, Viscosity, Anti-Foaming and Anti-microbial agent, among more. Alcohol can irritate the skin, and harm the protective layer, stripping it of oils and sebum on the surface Damage to the protective layer on the skin can result in bacteria causing acne, as well as potentially causing oxidative damage. Alcohol Denat is extremely bad for dry and sensitive skin because it strips away oils, resulting in dryness. People with oily skin won’t have much of a problem with this. Myristy is an alcohol that can be used as an emollient in cosmetics. It can be extremely drying on the skin.

Beneficial ingredients in the formula include Argania Spinosa Kernel Oil and Vitamin E.

Argania Spinosen Kernal Oil is a essential oil that contains Vitamin E , Fatty Acids and other important nutrients. In skincare products and some cosmetic products, Argan Oil rehydrates and nourishes, protects skin elasticity and can reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles. It serves as an emollient, pulling water and moisture into the skin, which leaves the skin plump and hydrated. There are a million other thing’s Argan Oil does but I dont want to be here forever. it’s an extremely good ingredient.

Tocopheryl (Vitamin E) is a an antioxidant agent that protects from free radical damage, which can severely damage the skin. It an prevents aging and damage by the sun and UV rays. It gives the skin moisture, and promotes healing.

All in all, the formula has some good and moderate ingredients, but also had way more the expected toxic ingredients. I haven’t analysed a product like this in forever. Nonetheless, I do think it’s a good foundation, and I love it so much I won’t stop using.

Marketing Analysis

Is this product marketed accurately?

To assess if marketing is accurate, I looked up what claims Huda uses to sell the foundation and then made up questions that I set out to answer to test the accuracy.

Huda describes the foundation by saying…

Questions I Have After Reading Marketing

Is the foundation full coverage?

The foundation is deffo full coverage, so that is accurate. The coverage is what I love so much about the product. Once you buff it in, it gives such a perfect, flawless, full coverage finish.

Does the product give a flawless, long-lasting look?

The Faux Filter Foundation does give you a flawless look. It’s applies evenly and hides blemishes and imperfections. The foundation is extremely long lasting and stays on all day.

Is the “amazing” formula packed with ultra refined pigments?

There are 5 pigment ingredients in the formula including Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891) , Ultramarines (CI 7700) and Iron Oxides (CI 77491), CI 77492), (CI 77499).

There is nothing unique about any of these pigment ingredients. In-fact, they are used by 9828288282828 companies everywhere. I’m not sure about this one, maybe she has used the pigments in a different way. She says “Ultra Refined” so that could mean she has crushed the pigments differently, as I said I am not 100% sure, so I would say this claim is some what accurate.

Is the foundation enriched with good-for-your-skin ingredients like Argan Oil and Centella Asiatica, both known for their hydrating properties,

The foundation does include Argan Oil and Cantella Asiatica.

Argan Oil, is a essential oil that contains Vitamin E , Fatty Acids and other important nutrients. In skincare products and some cosmetic products, Argan Oil rehydrates and nourishes, protects skin elasticity and can reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles.

Cantella Asiatica is an antioxidant agent that can protect the skin and heal wounds. It helps to protect the skin from the sun and free radicals. It also moisturises the skin, among other things.

This claim is accurate, although I am unsure how much impact these ingredients have in the formula.

All in all, marketing is pretty accurate!

Summary/Overall Thoughts

The Huda Beauty Faux Filter Foundation has became one of my favourite foundations of all time It has a beautiful finish and is high coverage, which is what I look for in a foundation. It makes the skin look flawless and is comfortable.

In regards to the actual chemical makeup of the product, as I talked about above, there is so many risky ingredients, including multiple fragrance & alcohol-based chemicals. These two ingredients can irritate the skin, among more. They are all rated as high risk chemicals, and the Huda formula had a LOT more bad ingredients then I have seen in any foundation product. The smell is pretty strong, and it just confuses me why anyone would want so many of them in a product.

Either way, I love the foundation and won’t stop using it. I think that if I read the ingredient list before buying, I wouldn’t of bought it, but I am glad I did. However, if you are someone with fragrance or alcohol allergies, or you are extremely sensitive, I would stear clear of this foundation.

The Huda Beauty Foundation Brush is a flat topped kabuki brush that is used to buff foundations and concealers into the skin. It has a hard top, which applies into the skin perfectly. You also get a higher coverage finish from the hard bristles. I won’t lie, I use this foundation every single day. It it my favourite foundation brush ever, and I probably won’t ever use another. I deffo recommend!!
