Kylie Cosmetics Burgundy Palette Eyeshadow Look Tutorial 1

Today, I am going to be showing you how to do a simple warm eyeshadow look using the Kylie Cosmetics Burgundy Palette.

Brushes Used For Look

• 3 x normal fluffy blending brushes. I used the Morphe M433 Blending Brush, Sigma E25 Blending Brush and a MAC 217 Blending Brush. You can use the same blending brush if you don’t have more than one, but just make sure you wipe the previous colour fully off on a towel or colour switch.

• 1 x slightly larger fluffy brush for eyeshadow prep. I used my Morphe M441 Blending Brush, which is slightly bigger than the above Morphe M433 Fluffy Blending Brush that I used to apply crease colour.

• 2 x flat lid brush. I used the MAC 239 Shader Brushes for the lid. I used the normal version and my Mariah Carey Bling version, but they are both the same brush.

• 1 x Tapered Crease Brush/Crease Brush – I used the Sigma E45 Small Tapered Brush. Any more tightly packed together (and not as fluffy) brush will do.

• 1 x Pencil Brush. I used the Morphe M431 Pencil Brush. Any pencil brush will do and here are just a couple examples.

I will add photos of the brushes at each step so you know what brushes you need for each step. Keep in mind that you don’t need to use the exact same brand or type, just similar, which applies to all products used even eyeshadow.

Burgundy Palette Tutorial 1- Step by Step

Eyeshadow Preparation

Step One

To start prepping the eye area, apply an eyeshadow primer or a concealer all over the lids and up on the crease/brow bone area.

Today, I used the Tarte Shape Tape Concealer and applied it all over my lid and up into my crease area. I blended this in with a Beauty Blender. This helps eyeshadow sit and stick better to the eye area, which makes eyeshadow look way better and brighter.

You can use any concealer or eyeshadow primer for this. I do prefer colored eyeshadow primers and concealers because it helps make the eye area look more flawless, but there are primers you can buy that have no colour to them and you can use them for this step if you want.

Step Two

To further prep the eye area, dust a skin colored or slightly cream/yellow toned matte powder over the eye area using a fluffy blending brush. Apply it all over the lids and up into the crease and brow bone area over the primer/concealer. This step locks in the concealer and preps the eye area more so eyeshadow applies better.

Today, I used the first shade in the Hourglass Ambient Surreal Palette , which is a matte finishing powder. I applied it with a Morphe M441 Fluffy Blending Brush which is slightly bigger than the normal Morphe Fluffy Blending Brush I use in the crease below. You can use a normal sized fluffy blending brush for this but I like to do this with a slightly bigger brush just because it distributes product quicker.

Eyeshadow Application

Now that the eye is prepped, we can move onto the shadow. I used 7 shades in the palette , including the following;

Beach, Penny, Brick, LA, Burgundy, Dubai, Naked

Step 1

To begin building up colour in the crease, apply the shade Beach, which is a Light Brown Orange Matte shade, with a fluffy blending brush.

Use back and fourth sweeping motions, concentrating on the outer corner as you swipe back and fourth. As you reach the outer corner, move your brush around in circular motions before blending back towards the inner corner again.

Start with little product, and keep building up intensity until you have a nicely defined crease (not too dark, but defined).

You can use any slightly orange brown matte shade for this step. I am using my Sigma E25 Blending Brush for this part, but any fluffy blending brush will work.

Step 2

Next add the shade Penny, which is a Matte Red Brown shade, into the crease with a fluffy blending brush. Use the same swiping back and fourth circular motions when blending as in Step 1. Adding this shade will deepen and define the crease some more, creating a nice gradient effect.

For this colour, I used my MAC 217 Blending Brush, but again, any fluffy blending brush will do. If you are using the same blending brush as in step 1, just make sure you dust the brush off on a towel or something to get the previous colour off before you add Penny.

Step 3

Apply Brick , which is a Matte Deep Red Brown shade, into the crease with a tapered/crease blending brush. This step will deepen and define the crease even more. Start with a little amount on your brush, and work up pigmentation slowly. You don’t want to add too much in one go and then wreck the look. Focus this shade more on the outer corner of the crease than the inner corner.

I used my Sigma E45 Small Tapered Blending Brush for this, but any tapered/smaller blending brush will do. The bristles in Tapered Blending Brushes are not as fluffy as normal blending brushes and are more tightly packed together, so you can add colour more precisely. Using this brush for this step helps create a gradient and ensures that each colour can be seen and are not completely overlapped.

Step 4

Eyeshadow Application- Working in Crease

Take a clean fluffy blending brush (or clean your blending brush off) and go over and blend the edges of the shadow to make sure everything in the crease is nicely blended.

Step 5

Now it’s time to start working on the lid. Add the shade Dubai , which is a Shimmery Deep Raspberry shade, to the inner and outer portions of the lid. Leave the middle of the lid blank because we are going to add another colour there later.

For the outer corner of the lid , I used the MAC 239 Shader Brush and made sure I was careful to get it precisely on the outer lid and not the middle lid.

For the inner corner of the lid , I used the Sigma E30 Pencil Brush. Any pencil brush will do, or any smaller brush with hard bristles that will get right into the inner corner.

Pack the shade up to the intensity you want. We will go back in and re-apply this step later so don’t worry too much about getting it extremely bright.

Step 6

Add the shade Burgundy , which is a Deep Red Satin shade , into the crease with a Sigma Small Tapered Blending Brush to fill everything in. Any more tightly packed brush will do.

This will ensure that everything is blended together and will give an extra pop of colour and dimension to the crease

Add Brick into the crease again with a Fluffy Blending Brush. Use back and fourth circular motions, focusing on the outer corner but still swiping towards the inner corner too.

I used my MAC 217 Blending Brush for this step but any fluffy blending brush will do.

This will add the finishes touches to the crease area by defying it more and creating more of a gradient again.

Step 8

Eyeshadow Application- Working on Lid

Now back to the lid’s. Add the shade LA , which is a Shimmery Gold shade, to the middle part of the lid using a flat lid brush.

I used my MAC 239 Shader Brush for this part.Any lid brush will work.

After packing the lid once, I sprayed my brush with MAC Prep and Prime so that the pigmentation would be higher, but I did still did have to pack a bit on and build it up , which I didn’t care about.

Step 9

Eyeshadow Application- Working on Lid – Finishing Steps

Make sure the outer and inner corner of the lids are filled in with the shade Dubai. Keep packing it on until it is the colour intensity you want. We did add Dubai to the inner and outer corners in Step 5, and this step is just to pack the pigmentation up so it is bright.

I used a Morphe M431 Pencil Brush to do this part. Using a pencil brush for this step instead of a lid brush will ensure that you don’t go out of the lines when building up pigmentation.

Step 10

Eyeshadow Application- Working on Lid- Finishing Steps

Add a bit more LA to the middle of the lid with a MAC 239 Shader Brush, or any flat lid brush.

Doing this will make the colour pop even more and also helps everything look finished. At this point, we are just touching up and intensifying the look, specifically the lid shades.

After you have nice pigmentation , get a clean fluffy blending brush (or use the same and just tap any excess shadow off) and lightly blend and tap the colors on the lid together at the edges to make sure there are no harsh lines and so that the colors on the lid slightly transition into each other.

Cleaning up Shadow- Finishing Steps

Get a concealer and apply it under the eye and up to near the brow bone, so it sits on the outside of the shadow. Blend out with a beauty blender carefully, and make sure you don’t wipe too much eyeshadow off. This just cleans up the shadow on the outer part.

I used my Tarte Shape Tape Concealer for this step

Eyeshadow Application- Working on Brow Bone- Finishing Steps

Add the shade Naked, which is a Satin Light Cream shade to the brow bone.

I have heard people say they don’t like this shade because it isn’t extremely pigmented but I actually like it because it isn’t really harsh looking. If you want more pop on your brow bone, you can use any other brighter light shade.

For this step, I used my MAC 239 Shader Brush. Any brush with hard bristles will work.

Step 13

Finishing Steps- Liner

Next it’s time for liquid liner. Make a thin line from the inner corner of the eye to the outer corner. Stick really close to the lash line and do it in slow, little steps to prevent any mistakes.

Of course, you don’t have to apply liner but when I am applying fake lashes, I make sure to apply liner so it blends better. Liner also defines the eyes and makes eyeshadow look better and makes the look complete.

Today I used my Gerard Cosmetics Liquid Liner, which is a nice precise liner.

Step 14

Finishing Steps- Mascara

Apply mascara to the lashes.

Today I used the MAC False Lash Mascara in a sample size that I got. I ran out of mascara so used this and I really like it. Applying mascara before lashes will help them blend easier. Again, you can stop here and not do lashes.
